DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...For the Winter Weather Advisory, blowing snow possible. Total snow accumulations up to one inch. Winds gusting as high as 80 mph. For the Winter Storm Watch, heavy snow possible. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 8 inches possible. * WHERE...Southwest Phillips County. * WHEN...For the Winter Weather Advisory, from 10 PM this evening to noon MDT Thursday. For the Winter Storm Watch, from late Thursday night through Saturday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult. Blowing snow can reduce visibilities. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and Friday morning commutes. Very strong winds could cause extensive tree damage and reduce visibility significantly.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.
