AREAS AFFECTED: Perkins; Chase
DESCRIPTION: At 705 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Amherst to 14 miles southeast of Pleasant Valley. Movement was east at 40 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Imperial, Wauneta, Lamar, Enders, Enders Reservoir State Recreation Area, Champion, Crete, Chase, Center Dam Campground, Wanamaker State Wildfire Management Area, Area A Campground, and Church Grove Campground. This includes Highway 61 between mile markers 25 and 55.
INSTRUCTION: If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 100 AM MDT for southwestern Nebraska.

Freezing rain is a condition where precipitation which has fallen in the form of
water droplets reaches temperatures which are below freezing and freezes upon
coming into contact
with surface objects. The result of this precipitation is a glaze of ice which
can be damaging to plants and man-made structures. A severe onset of freezing
rain which results in a very thick glaze of ice is known as an ice storm.

Hail is a form of precipitation which is recognized by large solid balls or
clumps of ice. Hail is created by thunderstorm clouds with strong updrafts of wind.
As the hailstones remain in the updraft, ice is deposited onto them until their
weight becomes heavy enough for them to fall to the earth's surface.
Hail storms can cause significant damage to crops, aircrafts, and man-made structures,
despite the fact that the duration is usually less than ten minutes.
