Southwestern Bennington County in southern Vermont... * Until 430 PM EDT. * At 404 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Grafton, or near Hoosick Falls, moving northeast at 40 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * Locations impacted include... Bennington, Hoosick Falls, Arlington, Shaftsbury, Pownal, Grafton, Berlin, Hoosick, Pittstown, North Bennington, Woodford, Old Bennington, Glastenbury, White Creek Station, Hoosick Junction, Paper Mill Village, Sodom, Chiselville, Petersburg Junction, and East Hoosick.
INSTRUCTION: For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with this storm. Cirrocumulus clouds form at high altitudes (usually around 5 km)
and have distinguishing characteristics displayed in a fine layer of
small cloud patches. These small cloud patches are sometimes referred to as
"cloudlets" in relation to the whole cloud formation.
Cirrocumulus clouds are formed from ice crystals and water droplets. Often, the
water droplets in the cloud freeze into ice crystals and the cloud becomes a
cirrostratus cloud. Because of this common occurrence, cirrocumulus cloud
formations generally pass rapidly.
